Life by Burpees Challenge: A Community Effort to Support Our Nation's Finest

This year’s Life by Burpees Challenge brought together fitness enthusiasts, generous donors, and six supportive, fitness-based communities to achieve something extraordinary. We completed over 13,000 burpees and raised just over $7,500 (half our goal) to support veterans and first responders.

While we haven’t hit our entire goal for 2025 yet, we are excited to keep raising support this year. The spirit of this event was undeniable, and the dedication shown by participants was nothing short of inspiring. From grueling workouts to heartfelt donations, every effort mattered.

To everyone who joined, donated, or cheered us on: thank you for showing up for our nation’s heroes. Your support has a lasting impact, and we can’t wait to see what heights we’ll reach together next year.

Getting Out of the Box: How Changing Perspective Can Change Your Life

Our event wasn’t just about physical challenges but also a powerful reminder of the mental and emotional growth that happens when we step outside our comfort zones—or "boxes."

  1. Perception: How you see the world from your own vantage point.

  2. Perspective: How you see the world from the vantage point of others.

For veterans and first responders, the disconnect between perception and perspective can feel particularly stark. What they experience and what others understand often exist in separate realities. This divide highlights the importance of shifting from a "box" mentality—where we focus solely on our own views—to an "out-of-the-box" mindset that invites understanding, empathy, and connection.

Living Inside the Box

Living "in the box" often means judging others harshly while justifying our own actions. It’s a mindset of separation and blame that prevents us from seeing others as human beings with their own struggles. Consider these scenarios:

What happened: Someone was late for a meeting.

  1. In-the-box thoughts: "They’re lazy, unorganized, or disrespectful."

  2. Out-of-the-box thoughts: "Maybe they were stuck in traffic, dealing with a sick child, or helping a friend in need."

  3. Conclusion: When you extend grace, you see others as people navigating challenges—just like you.

What happened: Someone cut you off in traffic.

  1. In-the-box thoughts: "What a jerk!"

  2. Out-of-the-box thoughts: "Maybe they’re rushing to an emergency or simply made a mistake. I’ve driven poorly when stressed, too."

  3. Conclusion: Responding with calm and compassion benefits both you and the other driver.

What happened: You didn’t get the promotion you wanted.

  1. In-the-box thoughts: "They don’t appreciate me. This is unfair!"

  2. Out-of-the-box thoughts: "What can I learn from this experience? I’ll support the person who earned it and prepare for my next opportunity."

  3. Conclusion: A team thrives when its members uplift each other rather than blame or begrudge.

Choosing to Leave the Box

When we leave our "boxes," we see others as people—not obstacles or excuses. We acknowledge that everyone has flaws, busy schedules, and chaotic lives. And most importantly, we recognize that we’re not so different after all.

Leaving the box doesn’t make life perfect, but it builds connection, fosters understanding, and invites others to do the same. You want things to improve.

Just like them!
